Hayward, Easterby, Moon, Finau, Marcus Thomas, all doing the hard yards, Cardey and Proctor running riot as a result. What a game, but also what a venue, Stradey in the sun, nowhere better. Up to your ankles in p1ss in the dark in the toilets for a night game in November but still a place to be revered, nowhere better. I started there with my father, and no I don't claim to be one of the 40k in 72, but 74 yes. Took my boys as season ticket holders in the last 3 years there, £10 each, something like that. They learned more maths there than in school. Playing beat the scoreboard. So what's 34 plus 5 for our try and 2 for the conversion? Get it right and it's a pasty at 1/2 time, get it wrong and it's a puddle in the car park on the way home for you my boy! No pressure! They always got it right, to my cost in pasties. Happy days.

Great stuff but what is so noticeable as an observation from the current game is the lack of defence and looser tackling. The emphasis in those days was primarily to get out on the field and to score more than the other team not to stop the other team scoring more than you !! the influence of rugby league ?!

A few things that stand out (it's been a few years since I watched the DVD),

How much pace and basic passing ability did we have across the whole team !!
How fast Proctor was!
Dog leg defences or not, passing in the way we did would beat most teams as long as we had a forward platform to give us the ball
How great it was to have all games in Wales which meant that all games could be easily (and cheaply) watched
Finally despite the media continuously harping on about crowds these days, how poor the crowds were despite how wonderful we were playing.
