Would you welcome back Amanda Blanc?

Anyone would but that's not what the point he's trying to make is. People are screaming out for the right people in the job. If that's all male, all female or a mixture, there shouldn't be an agenda. It should be who is the best.
Agreed.

However, with what’s gone before, there’s plenty of “porridge” to be consumed. Having been found lacking in the areas they have, the union has to show to the world that it is a much more diverse organisation and that its culture will follow a similar route.

A board that has the input of top quality entrepreneurs of whatever hue/gender will be a huge step up from Bob the Geog and similar, in terms of the £100m turnover business.

Yes Amanda Blanc is exactly the sort of person we need to be looking at employing, she said she wasn’t listened to, it would be interesting to see what she was saying.

I think we all hope she’ll lend her expertise to the union rebirth

In light of the debacle its totally understandable the need and demand for more female representation on the board, though a fixed quota would be wrong imo... Lets scour for the best candidates now..I hope this so called change is about far more than gender numbers though. Theres a ton of other things that need addressing too

Will this reform prise some of the power away from the clubs? What will be done about the fact our pro regions get paid a lot less than irish sides? How is the even calculated? Is there some secret barnet formula? How can they justify their non rugby related investments?  How do they intend to increase revenues beyond £100 million? I would have though having the biggest indoor stadium in europe is a facility that should make them a fortune? Whats being done to improve the semi pro league? What will be done to reduce payments to pub players in the lower leagues? In light of the covid crash , will the wru look to remortgage their assets again to raise short term funding? Any news up north? Will an RCG region be seeking to play at the newly rebuilt ryan reynolds stadium???

Crucially this should at least begin some improvements and start repairing damaged reputations. Crucial in growing the game and in attracting investors...Hopefully they can head hunt a few billionaires too. Theyre already rubbing shoulders with terry matthews at the parkgate hotel who's recently built the biggest convention centre in wales too, surely we can be doing more events together

Dear old ieuan and nigel I suspect do not have all the answers, but plenty of good business cliches lol Im glad walker thinks they all "violently agree" LOL  lets hope these changes and processes ask all the right questions and trawl the world for the best of the best to take us back to the topThumbs Up

Wasn't aware we had a semi pro league under the WRU.
Thought it was 4 pro teams and the rest amateur.

They don't get much really, think it's £50,000 each but don't quote me on that

A very sensible balanced viewpoint Roy.. thank you  !
We should all be overjoyed with the right decision has been made, by the clubs, but as Roy rightly points out...the hard work starts now, find a chair and CEO, to drive things forward.

A word for REALWEST and SA14 however,  I agree with the posts above above regarding the right people , regardless of gender should be targeted
BUT, we are only in this position because some incredibly brave women spoke up and exposed sexism and misogyny, highlighting what a dinosaur the WRU was.
Its right and proper therefore, that there are designated women on that board, not sure about 5, as a set number however. They obviously would have to be suitably qualified , appropriate to what is required , with the relevant experience. There is also a need for someone with a specific  remit to speak for the women's  game, which is another issue completely

Base the appointments purely on meritocracy. That will guarantee plenty of female involvement.

I agree. Select on merit. The 6 best candidates may be men, but one will then be rejected to get 5 women on the Board. The WRU may have painted themselves into a corner here. What if no women are currently prepared to get involved ? Some may not want to, bearing in mind what has gone on ? Some may feel that they are merely a token gesture !

But what if that one man is a good candidate but the women is worse than him?

So who funds the player's wages, £50,000 a year will scaresly fund two players let alone a squad.  Or do the WRU give them all much more than that?

How do you propose that the process decides who is better than the other

stan and peter thomas prob fund the cardiff and merthyr players wages, guys like fish beck haberfield and allen are not playing for free. others rely on bar takings ticket sales and local sponsors like any club really. Don’t llandovery have like a camping site they own? Quins let the club house for functions etc

It's hard to see how these established clubs are going to accept the WRU proposals for an 8 team elite/ development league to feed the Regions.
