Decent team, i am baffled also why Patch is constantly on the bench, If Patch was being used as an impact sub then it would be something but every game hes come on its been way to late to change any result

My understanding on this Dai is that Patch over the last 6-8 weeks doesn’t train with the main squad at the beginning of the week due to niggles (trains with the physio) then joins in later part of the week once he feels ok..Difficult to pick him then when he’s not there on team issues..Whether Patch is 100% only he knows

Prime for prime, there is no contest, Patchell is a class above.

He was excellent for us 2016-18, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to be able to get back to that level even though he is still in his 20s. The niggly leg injuries look to have robbed him of a yard of pace. I suspect that the head knocks have (completely understandably) effected his appetite to defend aggressively too.

He still has qualities and certain attributes which are better than Dan Jones, but isn’t a class above Dan any longer.

He’s not made a notable impact on a game for quite a while now. Not to say he can’t or won’t, but I can understand why he’s 3rd choice right now.

If he's not playing then it's not all that easy to make an impact. When has Dan Jones made a positive impact?

Every time Patchell has played recently he’s let us down, whether that be a dropped ball, wayward pass or injury. Every time I see Dan picked instead of Patchell I’m a little bit miffed but I understand why, he just can’t be relied on anymore, not on his current form anyway. I hope we can see the old Patchell at some point, but he doesn’t deserve to start in my opinion.

If want someone to make subsequent improvements to their game, you have to give them game time.
Patchell has not has adequate game time, in my view, and I don't mean off the bench.

He may not be the player he was, in 2016/18, , probably due to injuries. He does still however have attributes such as a huge boot, and great distribution skills.
For me, he would start in from of Dan Jones every time .Dan is a good solid player, but very limited.
My main argument is why the hell did we allow O'Brian to leave.?
If Peel and co, didn't think Patchell was up to it, then WHY give him a contract extension. Bizarre, going on's at Parc ..some things do'nt make sense !

I can’t disagree with you, the player retentions of late have been poor and don’t necessarily make too much sense.

Dan Jones is semi pro level but seems to be the best we have at the moment.

Shingler and Thomson are injuries waiting to happen.

Patchell is never fit enough it would seem.

All in this squad. They need to make way so we can recruit.

He's been unavailable for large swathes of the last two seasons which hasn't helped. Selection in the 23 has invariably been followed by injury/time off. Unlucky really. As we know he had decided to move on last season but the deal with Bath fell through at the eleventh hour, we re-signed him for a year.

A recurring calf injury added to concussions has (as Townboy mentions) meant he is clearly 'managing' these issues by spending time away from the main squad during the week. That must be in the coaches mind when thinking of starting him?

I find it difficult to agree with some of the tags given to Dan Jones. He's in totally different bracket to Patchell in terms of cost and expectation surely. Yet at just 26, he's pulled on the shirt 140 times.

My read on the overall team selection is that Peel has got his eye on next season's squad too...Davis in preference to Lezana, O'Connor in front of Sébastien and WGJ suggests ( as per Patchell) that those not selected may not (at the moment anyway) be in in Peel's plans for next year.

Tom Price again where are Morgan Jones and Jac Price.
It’s a disgrace team Wales are keeping Costellow and Blacker how are young players in Wales ever going to improve if they don’t play in games,  especially experiencing different countries and how they go about the game.
She asks why i still can't answer. I guess its in the blood.

Hearing about Rhys not training with the full squad most of the week helps me understand the situation. I do not agree that Dan Jones is not full professional level by the way - he is just not my idea of a Scarlets 10. His range of kicking both defensively and attacking is the best at the club. He is short of top end pace but does most things adequately for a 3rd choice 10.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if Dwayne had to make a decision now between offering Rhys a further year or keeping Angus I would hazard a guess it would have been different. Looks like we can add a 10 to our must have shopping list for next season along with a 2nd row.

Me calling Dan Jones semi pro might be a little harsh, but I stand by him not being good enough for a top region.

Hypothetical question. If a 35 year old Priestland was still at the club would he be ahead of him? The answer to that would most probably be yes. Just because he is a Quins product and no doubt cheap doesn’t mean he’s good enough. Angus O’Brien has looked far better.

Totally agree on Blacker (no game time) and Costelow. The English system would mean they are automatically released if not in the 23 and their club have a game.

Jac has picked up a knock and is out for a short time. Morgan is just an enigma to my mind. Huge potential, we/he haven't yet found a way to unlock it for some reason. He's EQ, so may be he's thinking of a move to England, pure guess.

I actually didn't really see Angus competing for the 10 shirt with us, or indeed with the Dragons. Angus is a 15 (who can play 10 if needed) by trade, something borne out by the Dragons only picking him there.
If he'd have stayed with the Scarlets he'd be vying with the likes of McNichol, Halfpenny and maybe Rogers and Nicholas for the 15 shirt. He's made a smart move in my view, especially with Jonah Holmes and Josh Lewis moving on last season.

A 35 year old Priestland is/would be with the Wales squad, so there's no point to be debated there really. Bet Cardiff are chuffed with that by the way.

I don't understand the Quins point there sorry.
