I feel the standard has been quite poor in Premiership this year. I know it’s only a one off but the Ospreys v Saracens game this year I thought this can’t honestly be top of the Premiership.

You have to suspect that a lot of the Premiership sides are paying out well in excess of their £5.5 million wages cap if the number of sides folding or struggling is anything to go by, and are hoping that they don’t get found out.
Most of the sides have upwards of 10k every home fixture, and their season tickets prices are at least double that of the welsh regions and their TV and sponsorship deals are much greater too. I know that they are allowed one marquee player outside of the salary cap, and someone on here mentioned that the coaching staff aren’t included in it either, so all should be in reasonable good shape financially unless they are cooking the books. Look at Saracens, they were relegated for cooking the books, lost all of their sponsors as a result, yet remarkably still managed to keep their B and I lions and England stars whilst still playing within the salary cap which is close to ours, yet no questions were asked. The premiership is really struggling at the moment, perhaps they need a complete reset with more open and transparent funding checks / streams. Alternatively maybe we should look at either an Anglo Welsh or British league with promotion and relegation.

After 800 years of English help , I wouldn't get into anything with them as in every instance we have come third in a 2 horse race

London Irish players have been told to prepare for the club to be suspended from the Premiership next week, which will mean they have to seek employment elsewhere. The demise of the Exiles now seems inevitable after the squad's virtual meeting on Friday evening with representatives from the RFU, Premiership Rugby and the players' union, the RPA. Mail Sport understands that current owner Mick Crossan was invited but did not participate – which does not suggest he is prepared to fund Irish through next season. And players were told that there is still no clarity in English rugby's corridors of power about their prospective new owners |

The RFU is starting to look like a mix of impotent and out of touch in all this.
If the league goes down to 10 teams next season then all the clubs will have lost revenue from 3 home ties, TV rights will likely need to be reviewed with 36 less games to be played across the season, season tickets become less appealing on a cost/game basis...pretty sure that the number of teams that qualify for the top tier of Europe (from a smaller pool) will come under scrutiny... and so on.. Add to that the (daft) bye laws that don't allow the likes of Ealing to join the Prem, and it's not hard to imagine an implosion of some kind is on the cards. One of the outcomes of which, is the RFU being obliged to come to the table on an Anglo/Welsh league...a table we would surely want to sit at too. |

Some on here, a minority I would add, still do not support the idea of an Anglo/Welsh league. This, to me, has more to do with Owain Glyndwr's time rather than good, practical business sense. Bums on seats has given the Irish provinces untold revenues over many years yet some of our colleagues don't see the enormous benefits available. Of course the worrying thing is that neither the RFU or indeed the WRU have proven themselves capable of running a corner shop let alone a fully professional successful league. A structure whereby Ospreys, Cardiff & Scarlets join the top 9 from the Premiership in a 1st division & Dragons join the 2nd division alongside the bottom placed Premiership side, Jersey etc with guaranteed promotion & relegation for the top and bottom sides would introduce jeopardy & incentive. Top 6 in 1st division qualify for Europe Champions Cup with bottom 6 in Challenge Cup.

In fairness to the RFU the English Premiership is controlled by Premiership Rugby. That lot that fined Northampton £60,000 for allowing George North to play for Wales outside of the window

It’s almost like an excursion through Agatha Christie’s titles.
We’ve already gone past The Thirteen Problems (1932). Whether events will visit The Three Act Tragedy (1934) remains to be seen as does And Then There Were None (1939). Clearly there’s not been enough of 1936’s Cards On The Table. On another note, why don’t they just invite Jersey & Ealing in to go back to 12 and ignore their artificial barriers to entry? Is it that CVC want to get the Anglo Welsh competition or a British & Irish League so they’re forcing the issue and how long is it until the contract with URC that the WRU signed to provide 4 sides to finishes/is due for renewal?

Interesting to know that you are talking factually , could you supply us all with the evidence of such profound information ...we are already in the better league from a players viewpoint and jumping to an inferior competition as the English league we are kidding ourselves and not facing up to our inadequacy.....Running away won't achieve a better outcome

What evidence do you seek? Travelling support is practically non existent in the URC. So do the maths - an additional 1000 travelling supporters over 11 home games plus spend at ground would give us an extra income of around £500K. I agree facing up to our inadequacies is long overdue but with the WRU in control of the purse strings we seem pretty toothless. Getting entry to a competition that is run by the clubs would be a good place to start that awakening.

Try answering the question regarding the point about the majority of supporters want , I don't hear or see it ...so I was wandering if it was fact or fiction
The standard of the URC is way better than the English league and supporters want to see fast competitive games , our players need to be tested week in week out , it's only fair on them as no one wants to see an individual embarrassed on the international scene ...We become competitive by playing in the best league and that is the URC ... |

Mohamed Haouas was detained for questioning yesterday afternoon for domestic violence.
He’s leaving Montpellier and off to Clermont in the summer. Good luck Urios.

My reasoning is based purely on what I have read on this forum. My unsubstantiated opinion is that supporters of an Anglo-Welsh would be in a majority. If the rule now is that an opinion cannot be expressed on this forum without detailed factual proof then its going to get to be pretty boring place. I appreciate, of course, Oracle that all your posts are rigorously fact checked - many on that fountain of fact and reasonableness - Twitter.
