Wales to take on South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday, June 22 (2pm kick-off). Part of a double header at the ground, along with Barbarians v Fiji (5.15pm). The same day as the URC final, as it happens.

That could help Wales. We certainly won't have anyone playing the URC final.

Unfortunately none of the Wales players who are based outside Wales will be available. So no Tompkins, Jenkins, Rowlands, Reffell, Etc.

Gatland sees it, quite understandably,  as a good hit out before the test series in Australia. Get as many caps as he can into the youngsters. Frankly whatever cash the WRU get will be a bonus.

I’ve seen a fair bit of Cardiff this season and while results haven’t gone their way you can see they always fight right until the very end and that is a sign of a very good group," said Corniel van Zyl. Corneil is the new forwards coach for Cardiff from next season. Very true words which could certainly be used to describe both Cardiff & Ospreys this season.

Rey Lee-Lo has received a four-match ban for the red card received against Benetton on Saturday.

He’s been banned for the following games he definitely would have played in (👀);

Leinster (H) - URC
Newport (A) - Welsh Prem
Glasgow (A) - URC
Munster (A) - UR

Were the disciplinary panel made up of any of the nations Cardiff were due to play or was it just an SA & Italian committee?

I read that, and commented BTL that I'd been lucky enough to see the exceptional Aussie Schools team which included the brilliant Ella brothers, amongst others - I wonder how many of you remember them, or saw that schools team? here is a quote and a link:

Forty years ago, this month a group of shivering young Aussies in oversized duffle coats slipped into the country unannounced. By the time they left seven weeks later they were hailed as the most innovative side, senior or junior, to visit these shores and there are some who would maintain that is still the case.
The Australian Schools side of 1977-78 has gone down in legend, mainly for the way the three Ella brothers – Gary, Glen and Mark who played together in the Matraville School XV in Sydney – combined with extraordinary telepathic understanding behind the scrum.
The squad boasted such strength in depth that future Rugby League legend Wally Lewis rarely made the starting fifteen. Tony Melrose, considered an outstanding League prospect, was converted to Union just in time to make the turn. Michael O'Connor was another huge star of the future – in Union and League

Going back to 4 or 3 sides might be of benefit to them. I’m surprised the Melbourne Rebels have lasted this long.

He looked very good, but Ospreys scrum disintegrated when they brought the youngster on at hooker.

Watching a raft of released Scottish squad members beat the Ospreys does really hit home how far apart the regions & the WRU really are despite all the talk of improving relations. Townsend is no better off than Gatland with release of players outside Scotland but the arrangements with his URC teams is light years ahead of ours.

We can only look on in envy at the moment.

The agreement signed up to by the pro clubs apparently means the welsh coach retains 28 fit players in these fallow weeks.

However we’ve arrived in this situation, the welsh pro clubs fare the worst in matters of releasing players.
