We really need to get back to the main issue which is the compensation for player release and the overall funding levels.
If the overall playing budget keeps dropping or doesn't keep up with the market we could end up as the only team in Wales and not be any stronger, unless we're expecting some significant pay cuts. We're the only top tier nation with constant tension with the union and annual debates around funding models, others have their spats now and again but ours with the WRU has been ongoing for well over a decade. We waste a huge amount of time and effort on something that should be a simple transaction and absolutely have to get away from this.

Also mergers don't work, the Warriors lasted a grand total of a year and the Ospreys after some early success have been in steady decline ever since in respect of performances and attendances.
Our proposed merger fell through, as did the Bayonne/Biarritz and Stade/Racing.

I think it would be unfair to base it on results of this season. In fact that would be ridiculous.

The closing of one of the regions will be unfair. There is no equitable way of doing it. As bad as the dragons have been they have a loyal following. Like choosing a limb to cut off.

Scarlets boss reassures fansScarlets chairman Simon Muderack has told supporters that the west Walians are not discussing any mergers or restructuring of the club. Welsh rugby has been hit by another bombshell when it emerged last week that a proposal had suggested cutting one of the four professional Welsh sides. However, Muderack has now moved to ease fans' fears. "Crys 16 met with Simon Muderack (Scarlets Executive Chair) on Monday 9th May regarding the press articles that have emerged over the last week concerning the future of Welsh Regional Rugby," read a letter sent to members of the Scarlets' supporters trust. "We specifically discussed speculation regarding a potential reduction in the number of professional clubs in Wales and the wider content of the Oakwell Report. The Scarlets are currently not discussing any merger, relocation or any other form of restructure of the club." |

Just wait.....50 million tv money is due, post covid ticket sales are due, new bt and premier rugby deals are due, revenues from WRU new hotel are due, umpteen other huge stadium events all due...just wait
In the meantime Id look to remortgage the hotel and stadium again, sell a few debentures for cash flow and scrap the 60 cap rule |
