Being WQ is the key attribute. He may well get a run in the Summer with Wales to see how he goes. I'd suggest at 13.

McNicholl was a starter for Crusaders for a few seasons and only missed out on NZ selection as he signed for us.
Hansen came out and said he was in line for a call up but made himself ineligible.

He certainly had an absolute bumper season for the Crusaders in the wake of signing for us...scores tries for fun and was ever present, but he wasn't really a regular pre that. Played more for Canterbury really.

No doubt the NZ selectors might have had a nibble to persuade him to stay though..

Very good player, but his defence at the highest level is just a little short of the mark. Scores some absolute beauties for us though.

Yes Mark. He came to us with nothing and on a basic deal, and from playing semi pro with Otago and being on the fringes of Super Rugby. During his time with us he picked up a sizable contract and full time pro deal with the Blues. Fair play to him ( and us for putting him in the shop window I guess).
Blues didn't renew, and the Highlanders signed him on a 1 year deal this season, but he hasn't figured much.

The other lad the O's have signed from NZ, Jack Regan, is from Ruddock's Irish tenure no doubt. Ex Ireland U20's...spent 3 years at Ulster but didn't get his contract renewed last March (made 1 appearance) and tried his luck in Mitre 10 with Otago in NZ.

The O's are recruiting for sure, but so far Collins is the best signing outside of the Wales 38 quota (Francis), the rest is raiding academies or players that other regions opted not to keep on (5 signings I think).

Allegedly Collins will be in the 38.

I think their best signing is Jac I don’t know if he is the 38 though I doubt it.

I'll feel a bit better if we announce a bit of beef in the pack to replace Tex and Ball. Morgan is decent of course, but we need depth.

Currently we're looking at Morgan and Lousi as first choice, and behind that we're relying on one of Drake, Price or Helps making the step up.

Absolutely. An inside line on talent, or, more appropriately available talent, would be an expectation.
Although on balance if you plan to leave Aus or NZ in the Covid era it's a different equation to what it used to be.

The O's connection to NZ is a but tenuous...Collins comes from the connection to Pivac, and Regan is Irish, been in NZ for 9 months, and no doubt connected through Ruddock.

I hate to be a cynic, but "magic beans" comes to mind here, in terms of compensation for Brad's early departure.

I must admit I would be surprised if Collins was to feature as part of the 38. At 15 I would put Halfpenny, Liam & Holmes ahead of him; he isn't quick enough for wing or 13 in my opinion but at 13 I would have George & Watkin ahead of him and at 12 Johnny, Halaholo, Foxy, Kieran Williams & Aneurin Owen so the only real place is 13 at a push. Of course I haven't mentioned Tompkins. I have a feeling that Pivac is seriously looking at Owen Lane for the long term 13 slot.

What worries me is the rumour mill is very quiet and there appears to be no inkling of any signings whatsoever.
