How many 7s can we have on the books? We have Josh, Dan, Cubby & Thomas. If we sign Refell or Robinson, I’d say at least one of the aforementioned would have to go.

Watched him at Glaws and thought - we haven't missed too much, but he seems to have got better and better since being at Bristol

Didn't Dan Thomas admit he had some attitude issues when he was younger? Seems like he's sorted himself out.

Personally I'd rather back who we've got and give youngsters a chance, the role of a 7 is changing a bit so a fetcher at 7 isn't as important as it used to be.

Seems to have found his feet at bristol. Real link player and pest over the ball and defensively.
Pacy 7 very similar to Thomas Young in that respect.

If we look back when he left, we were under Easterby we were playing three blind sides I seem to recall.

He’s farming stock and I think would be on wales radar if it wasn’t for the riches at 7.

And if the alleged incident led to him leaving. We have got form for giving other players a second chance with worse situations, E.g Liam Davies in two spells.

Is Iestyn more of a 6? He’s a big lad for sure from what I’ve seen. Needs more match time though, looked rusty against Ospreys A.

Both Reffell and Dan T are probably earning decent money being regulars in their matchday 23's.
At least more than what we would be allowed to pay either under WRU rules I'd expect.
Even if their contracts are up this season and they get selected for Wales, they could easily sign a long term contract asap with extension clauses etc before they get their cap to avoid being subjected to the 60 cap rule.

We've got 10 backrowers on the books, Cubby is the only unknown injury with regards to timeframe and he was injured on Wales duty so surely their insurance is picking up his wages?
As a business I can't see how we can justify bringing in more backrow players unless there are long term injuries and Cubby aside they're not.
We brought Tom Phillips back because of the raft of injuries and as his fate seems to go he got injured himself.

We need to get our S&C, Physio's, medical equipment, etc. to the highest possible standard.
I'm not saying that their poor right now, just we need to be constantly improving in these areas whether it's through further training, using new methods, developing new methods ourselves or whatever else there is.
As long as you win it once, you'll never be forgotten

I see Ultan Dillane is leaving Connacht at the end of the season, would he be worth looking at?

Ah I did do a bit of googling & couldn't see anything. Makes sense as I think he was born in France.

i do think we need a 7. cubby has not played for so long and we really dont know if he is coming back and what state he will be in. Dan Davis has had string of injuries as well and the same can be said, will he develop really not sure.
iestyn rees is a 6 not a 7 and needs to concentrate on playing there.
Lezana i think can play in all 3 spots but is more of a 6/8.
this leaves us thin and still feel another 7 is needed who can jackal and slow oppositions ball down.
Once a Scarlet, always a Scarlet!

I am disappointed in Dan _ I still live in hope though. Lezana is a 7 for me - he is too small for 6/8. Now Iestyn is interesting. He has the build to play all 3 and I would like to see him given a chance to play 8. Bit of a Josh McLoud in him which is one of the biggest complements I can give.

Sums it up for me! I’m not down on Dan or anybody else for that matter, but at some point we have to look at what we’re paying and what we’re getting. Having 3 frequently injured opensides on the books (Lezana unknown) isn’t an effective use of squad funds. Iestyn at blindside would be useful,

Shingler is 34, Blade is 31, Rawlins frequently injured and a “hybrid”. In an ideal world, I wouldn’t mind Fifita at 6 if we found another lock, but that’s semantics, he will do the job regardless of his number.

Kal is 33 currently, and we have hopes for Carwyn but he needs time. Back row is right now either on the aging side, or injured side. I said it at the time, and I’ll say it again, I’d have kept Ed Kennedy around!

I was going to do a squad preview for next season to better get a look at the numbers, but the Scarlets website makes it tricky to pull accurate information for the last 2-3 seasons.

That second chance hardly went well.  That's not to say it wouldn't with someone else.
