Helps to retire. One less SR. Makes signing Wainwright quite a strange decision if ypu look at priorities.

Seems to have been regularly injured and I had not realised he was 27 which isn’t at all young to have established as a first team player. He was possibly never going to break through proper so good for him to look at life outside pro game.

As an aside I see that he intends to play for the Quins. Different to the Rags who are the top Premiership club and who integrate Cardiff Academy and senior fringe players in the team and use the same calls, so a player can be called up to the pro team. I wish we used that sort of model with the Rfc and a Helps slipping into the Rfc squad but sadly not so . It would make the Rfc stronger; more successful and also tighter to the region

.
With Helps retired and Rawlins unlikely to play again, it would have more sense to bring Matthew Screech in on loan, than a prop .

Yes exactly, another missed opportunity. Last season Cracknell was released by the Ospreys, yet we failed to bring him in when our back row was crying out for players of his quality.

Gave his all when he did pull on the shirt. Best of luck in his new venture.

Cracknell and quality aren’t often included in the same sentence.

Dragons have managed to rope in every Welsh lock. Rowlands, Nott, Lonsdale, now Screech.

Should the thread be renamed ShroveTNewsday signings, given where the timing for budget agreement is heading?

It’s at times like this when it’s difficult to decide whether we are being run by moronous cretins or cretinous morons.

Which speaks volumes for the unfairness of the WRU Dragons v the rest of us

The Ospreys and to some extent the Blues have down very well out of WRU contracted players being sent to them.

Why - I know this has been a long held view of yours with regard to WRU part contracted players. However I really don't see any obvious reasons why most of the decisions would rest with the individual player. I do understand that with only, it seems, the Dragons having some idea of funding why they have been able to be active in the market while the other 3 clubs have had to be cautious but the likes of North, Francis to Ospreys & Faletau, Adams to Cardiff are surely down to the individuals. Perhaps I am being naiive but I do not see any evidence of a conspiracy.

Not based on anything other than gut feeling but if the WRU are funding the majority of a salary then they I am sure will at the very least give a player a strong steer on where they want them to go.

With no sign of a clear timeline in funding for the 23/23 season I think we will see more 'fringe' players, like Helps, make a decisive move to step out of pro rugby...

Even when the budgets do appear they are unlikely to mean regions will be able to sign/retain everyone they want, so it's perfectly understandable that some players will 'reach an agreement' with the club and move on.

Same sort of thing is happening in the English Prem to an extent, albeit the players moving around are the higher earners perhaps,

What a mess.
The WRU/Governance needs to hang it's head in shame ( not going to happen of course as life is so much easier for those not cursed with self awareness.).
