Llanelli's preparations for the coming Premiership season are being mapped out with military precision - quite literally. New coach Max Howells, who spent 12 years with the Royal Marines, has promised to transfer some of his experiences with the armed forces to Stradey Park ahead of their assault on the newly-sponsored Principality Welsh Premiership.

''It will be more about the mental side of things than anything else,'' explained Howells, the director of rugby with Neath Port Talbot College.

''It is about taking the mental toughness aspect of it and raising the expectations and standards of the players and also not having that fear of failure.
