At last some forecast sunshine from Saturday for at least a week. The summer weather has been frustrating to say the least. Most crops have done well but our runner beans have suffered from, we think, lack of warmth allowing the flowers to form - the result is having a crop for August only when we normally are pulling until the end of September.

Our sweet peppers are pretty slow maturing but hopefully this coming week will help. As I said most veg have done well with best crops being achieved for leeks, swede, cauliflowers, tomatoes & cucumbers. As always in gardening winning more than losing is perfectly acceptable.

The summer has sort of come back to NE Scotland, which typically means anything could happen and usually does.. Temperatures are key, now to get the last tomatoes ripe along with the sweetcorn, it was 9.8 in the greenhouse over night, don't want it going any lower for at least another  month, but we often get a frost in September, so I need to dig the potatoes out next.

You just cannot trust the weather or even forecasts.
I have invested a lot of money,  time and effort,in our hanging  baskets. I water and feed religiously.
I have learned NOT to listen to the predicted rain for the following  day, unless it obviously  going to be very bad.
As a consequence,  the baskets are doing really well.
I even take them down and place on buckets in the garage ,when it's obviously  going to exceptionally  windy, or torrential rain.

Today BBC weather  predicted the best day of the week.
We went to Tenby, but by the time we got there, it was overcast, and exceptionally  windy. Our proposed boat trip was postponed  for another day, and those who risked it , wished they hadn't.

Since June the weather has been consistently  unpredictable,  and generally  poor
Sorry for the kids,  who are are back in school, in a couple  of weeks

I stood yer on tanner bank

I'm with you on the raised beds. Being an enthusiastic gardener I have found that I have become quite manic about weather forecasts. Confused

Outside the greenhouse has not been so good, carrots and Parsnips a disaster, can't win 'em all I guess, bit like rugby at times.

It always amazes us how things change due to location in the growing fraternity. We have experience growing veg in Kent at sea level and here in middish Wales at 650 feet & its a total different World. Having said that this season has been our best ever. Carrots and parsnips doing well & our Swede are huge with still 6-8 weeks to go before harvest. Had some lovely sweetcorn yesterday for lunch, tomatoes now ripening well. Sweet peppers are slower but will perk up now that we are getting some warmth returning.

Now for a confession, during lockdown my daughter treated me to a shot on the Ancestry thing, well I did my family tree and as well as the English/Saxon/Norman stuff I knew about I've Welsh ancestors, it might take a while to get over the shock lol.

Some much needed warmth forecast for the middle of this week so our sweet peppers should get a boost. Ymlaen!!!!
Very appetising indeed GPR

Just shared a soft chorizo laced baguette prior to a croissant for a late breakfast over here…..Cool
