That is an odd one - our own Macleod is an excellent jackler, but he may be the only one picked? Reffell would have also had that skill.

Deaves is also in the squad who is also a very good jackler!

Good point - and he was very good against us...Cry

This is a problem for us in Wales - we simply don't breed enough big players! I guess Ball might have been in with a shout but for his injuries... We may not rate Beard, but he is... big. One of a small number.

All the same, and without going in to the details, it seems to me that the team may be a bit bigger overall than last year. Francis back as prop; Macleod (and maybe Deave?) bigger than Reffell; Eddie bigger than Tompkins; Mee and LRZ taller and bigger than Murray etc. I am not certain about this, but it would not surprise me if the overall team is heavier and taller.

As for the rest of your comment - I doubt anyone is expecting miracles from team or coaches. Let's look for and hope for improvement, and at the very least battling performances. Become a team that is difficult to beat, and some narrow wins may follow this year or next.

Could well happen if the WRPA don’t get any clarification by Feb 6th, the eve of the England match.

Didn't know much about Hamer-Webb until reading an article on the BBC this morning:

Gabriel Hamer-Webb has revealed how family grief led to him picking Wales over England for his international future.

The Bath-born wing has already represented England at Under-20s level in the Six Nations.

But he was convinced to switch allegiance by his Cardiff-born mother following the tragic loss of both his father and brother.

"That loss definitely taught me a lot. I've only tried to see silver linings and even though it's tragic and sudden, you can't control or change it," said Hamer-Webb.

"The losses meant that I'm a sole male figure in my instant family. That weight brings pressure but I would do anything for my sisters and my mum anyway.

"So I asked my mum a while back, 'What would be better for you?' She said, 'Wales of course, that's where we're from, where your family is from'.

"That was big for me. If that's the thing that makes my mother the proudest, then wow, that could be something."

🚨WALES SQUAD CHANGE🏉

Cardiff Rugby tighthead prop Sam Wainwright has been called up to the Wales senior men’s squad.

Keiron Assiratti has been released due to a calf injury sustained in Cardiff Rugby’s match against Benneton on Saturday.

I think Henry and Harri should be dissapointed. Wainwright barely URC level. He proved that when he was with us. The proper call should have been the youngster(cant remember his name, Scott something) playing in Bristol. Bring in the youngsters with potential not has beens who wont get thete.

Maybe someone can correct me on this, but I can't think of MANY likely first-choice Wales players being injured ATM (fingers crossed) - apart from Assirati, I suppose...

In the meantime, our rivals are having some tricky problems - massive French prop Atonio has suffered a heart attack, and has been advised to retire with immediate effect - I hope he makes a full recovery. England also have a number of prop problems with Baxter injured. Ireland's Keenan has apparently broken a thumb, and Aki is in trouble after a falling out with a ref.

So, just maybe, a combination of us being able to pick from a full-ish deck of cards while others face problems could lead to a better set of results. We'll see.
