Can't agree with RBP on that selection. Don't think Sherratt will want to mess with his centre pairing at this stage so I think either Joe or Hathaway to the wing. You ask why change Tomos Williams - well perhaps because he has been awful in the past two games and hardly set the world alight before.

Rhodri is a better passer & kicker so would get the nod from me. I have no idea who will get the nod at tight head but I would suggest Assiratti. I would start Lake - he is fit so start him. Wales need to start this game firing not find themselves out of it after 30 minutes. I would also have Edwards on the bench. Anscombe for unfortunately injuries and age have caught up with him. Finally I have my doubts about Reffell on the bench. England's back row are very direct & powerful. I would go with some size - Thomas of Gloucester or Plumtree.

All good points. Joe has a great game, and on the wing too… I think we can go at England around the 13 channel with their chopping and changing at centre. But I agree I can see a straight switch of Hathaway for Tom. My worry their is Hathaway is also smallish and not great in defense so that would be two in the back 3 - Llewellyn would give some height on the opposite wing to Mee forcing England to kick down the middle instead which opens the field up for Blair.

I want Jarrod to start so regardless of Tomos’s performances I honestly don’t see that playing Rhodri from the off is gonna dramatically improve things all told. But that’s just MHO.

Rationale with Dee is that Lake is not gonna be fully fit as he’s still barely played and we know England are going to come with power late on. Also we need to secure possession early on. Of lake fluffs some early lineouts were screwed.

Agree about Edwards on the bench (I’d forgotten him!). Although Anscombe’s experience late on could be useful. Very young backline otherwise.

Reffell’s in there because if we lost Jac we’d have no breakdown presence and we need a 7 at all times. I considered both your options instead of Rowlands but his grunt could be useful and Teddy Williams can drop to six and wainwright to 8.

All good fun this!!!! Hathaway is taller I think than Joe so he & Mee should not be found wanting aerially. Freeman is a handful though & they will kick a lot. I fully understand your reasoning with Lake; my worry is that they are going to come hard at the breakdown with Curry & Itoje & look to carry hard early to silence the crowd. Lake is better suited to that confrontation. Even if he only lasts the first half I will start to fancy our chances if we get to half time within a score.

Again with Tomos - we both want to see Jarrod start but he needs the best service he can get because he really takes the ball to the line & makes very late passing decisions. I totally agree with you - the English centres regardless of who they play outside Dingwall are there for the taking & Jarrod could be just the man to do it. The more I write the more convinced I am that we can win.!!!!!!

Another area I think England are vulnerable is the lineout. They have gone with a back row which is breakdown heavy so no real lineout threats. We have Faletau, Jenkins & Teddy hopefully all good options against Itoje & Chessum who are both excellent options. They may of course go for a lot of reduced lineout numbers on their throws to limit our numbers.

Hathaway is taller than Joe, but not Max Llewellyn! I'm torn if I'm honest... we do need continuity at centre, just thought Joe was a good attacking threat on Saturday.

I think with Lake it'll be the coaches seeing how he goes in training this week. Bringing him back in versus England is the kind of thing that will stoke him up!

With regards to the lineout, you seem to inadvertantly made a good point for starting Plumtree at 6! He's good at the lineout and at being a nuisance in the close-quarters. Can't see it happening, but him at 6, Williams at 5, then Waintwright instead of Reffell on the bench could be a big call.

I would put Hathaway on the wing, drop the half backs, Lake and Henry Thomas front row, Teddy Williams for Rowlands 2nd row, and Wainwright back row for Reffell.

While we may loose some accuracy at 2, I feel we need the grunt and competitiveness value of Lake.
Half Backs,  Tomas has been poor all series, while Anscombe had an ok game against Ireland, but again was poor, and shows is age against Scotland look at times like a rabbit in the headlights, so Rhodri & Evans, with maybe Bevan & Edwards on the bench.

We have to be less passive than last Saturday, and play with adventure in the right areas, will have to remind Ben Thomas of that.

The press say play on form, but obviously this does not cover some "stars" I have been disappointed with some senior players who have done virtually nothing, I said 2 weeks ago after the Irish game, we'll loose to Scotland, but beat England, and I'll stick with that.
Be careful when you pick up the stick.........IT MAY BE THE WRONG END!!!!!!!!!!

Sound arguments there Dai.

Half-backs: surely, Jarrod deserves to start and FWIW I'd have Edwards on the bench. 9 is difficult... not much to choose between them overall but maybe Tomos W doesn't deserve to start after mediocre performances.

There were very few scrums v Scotland and the ref seemed disinclined to reward Wales - the Scots wheeled under pressure, but the ref often went for resets rather than pens. I'd go with whoever Adam Jones fancies at prop!

Hooker - Dee to start (match fit, better thrower) and Lake off bench for impact.

Second row - Jenkins plus one other

Back row - Wainwright, Morgan, Faletau - not convinced by Reffell (has he won any turnovers so far this 6N?) so I'd pick a big player for the bench here.

Don't know who is reffing, but as so often interpretations of the scrum and breakdown could make a difference if it's close.

Nic Berry is Saturday’s referee.

I think most of us are aligned on Teddy Williams, Wainwright and Jarrod Evans starting.

Dee v Lake - I can see if both ways. Lake is a combative leader so maybe against England you go with that but I trust Bomb in training to see where they are both at.

I'm slightly perplexed by the Hathaway support. Hear me out.

I like him as a player but he's not known for his aerial ability or defensive prowess. He's very much like a slightly bigger Blair Murray. How much has he played since being called up? I'm not sure there would be as much clamour to put him in if his position wasn't wing. The way I'm looking at it is that Joe played really well out of position and for this, effectively one-off, game we want continuity but also players who have recently played / played well, on the pitch. Moving Llewellyn out to 14 gives us his height and he's used to playing there, meaning Joe can slot in at 13 and continue where he left off against Scotland. When the backs are split, Max can hit the same lines anyway.

Just seems, IMHO, to make more sense to put a team out of guys who have already got up to speed at this level recently rather than drop someone in from effectively nothing. Even if we have to shift one guy out one place in the backline.

I agree with Peregos.  I was surprised that people were suggesting starting Hathaway.

Hathaway is a threat outwide. Am surprised Dyer hasn't featured always played well for Wales.

You make a compelling case for Roberts at 13 & Llewelyn at 11 - no arguments from me. Joe with the benefit of minutes against Ireland & Scotland ( most of the game) is starting to look like his old self. He also gives us another left kicking option. I would be looking to use Murray's boot at every opportunity, akin to how Ireland use James Lowe. He kicks long & accurately.

Is plumtree in the squad? If he is Id bring in wainwright to the team and plumtree to the bench replacing reffell who's simply not physical enough.

I'd like to see

15 - Mee
14 - Llywelyn
13 - James
12 - B Thomas
11 - Murray
10 - J Evans
9 - Rhys Williams
8 - T Faletau
7 - J Morgan
6 - A Wainwright
5 - D Jenkins
4 - T Williams
3 - Assirati
2 - E Dee
1 - N Smith

16 - Lake
17 - G Thomas
18 - W John
19 - W Rowlands
20 - Freddy Thomas
21 - Reffel/Plumtree
22 - T Williams
23 - Roberts

I'd go 6-2 as Ben Thomas could take over as outside half in an emergency.

6-2 is a good shout.

Not sure the logic of throwing James in out of position rather than play Roberts?

Also, I think Rhys Williams retired a while ago... but he's probably got a better box kick than Tomos still.
