Haven't even heard Bok fans trying to single that one out. Ref was totally and utterly awful and lost us the game. I can accept dodgy refereeing, but he was very clearly influenced by the crowd and the occasion got to him.

As for Dan Biggar's captaincy, I think he did a lot better on the day than Kolisi who looked to start a few fights across the pitch and seemed to loose his head (hence why he was subbed I'd imagine)
I’m with you on Kolisi.

While he might well have been a hugely unifying force for good off the pitch, he is a right moaner on it and does appear to look to cause trouble where none previously existed. It’d be good if he carried some of his PR and off pitch manner with him onto the field. Can he channel an inner Sam Warburton from somewhere?

Agreed. Thought he was really poor yet somehow the ref had a bigger issue with Dan. There was a point in the match I believe where the ref called over 2 boys (1 Bok, 1 Welsh) and Kolisi to warn them for fighting yet when Dan tried to join them he was sent away.

Baffling

The ref had an issue with Because dan was waving his arms and shouting at him, no wonder he was annoyed at him

I think the occasion got to the ref. It happens. Wales need to overcome. Play the ref better in some instances. Not too disheartening. A more balanced occasion sees Wales winning and competing with the best team in the world is a vast improvement on that horrendous Italy game. There is progress. More consistent please mr Pivac.

Wales prop Tomas Francis is out of the tour to South Africa after suffering concussion in last Saturday's first Test defeat.

The 30-year-old was carried off after sustaining a head blow shortly after coming off the bench in the second half in Pretoria.

No replacement has been called up.

Dillon Lewis, who started the first Test, and uncapped pair Sam Wainwright and Harri O'Connor are the remaining tight-head options in Wales' squad.

Leon Brown and Samson Lee were unavailable for the Springboks series due to injury.

Wales had hoped Ospreys' Francis would be able to feature in the third Test in Cape Town on Saturday, 16 July after completing at least a 12-day compulsory stand-down period.

Instead Wainwright, of Saracens, and Scarlets' O'Connor will have the chance to earn a place in Wayne Pivac's matchday squad for the two remaining Tests.

Forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys had earlier expressed the hope Francis would be able to play again on tour, but insisted the priority was his health and the decision would be in the medics' hands.

Francis suffered a head injury against England during the Six Nations in February 2022.

On that occasion, he temporarily left the field for an independent head injury assessment before returning to play.

Wales were criticised for not replacing him permanently at the time and a Six Nations review later found Francis should have been "immediately and permanently removed from play" after his head injury.

The referee was the same one who made Italy play with 13 men for 70 minutes in the 6 nations match against Ireland.  He was lambasted for his handling of that game and the sensitivity of the incident.  He’s the first referee to take charge of tier 1 matches from a tier 2 country, so it’s a massive step up for him.
I did find him that he had no empathy for the game, like the rules are black or white with no leeway or grey areas.  He could have done with a bit of help from his linesmen and the TMO, and he should have possibly gone to the TMO before brandishing some of the yellow cards.
I’m sure that he’ll sit down and assess his performance (with a referring assessor) and learn to lighten up a little and to trust his assistants and TMO more.

Apparently that was the correct decision. Didn't see the game, so no idea what he was like. Neww refs should have more exposure as TMO's and AR's before taking the whistle. Going from Tier1 to Tier2 is a massive jump in terms of the pace of the game.

Yes, it was the correct decision by the letter of the law and so were most of them on Saturday, but the best referees have an empathy for the game, the players and the spectators and use their own judgement accordingly.
Hopefully he will improve with more exposure and more help from his LM and TMO.

The other thing to think about is how outgoing is your average Eastern European. Over many years, they’ve not had the same ability to travel and consume things that a typical Western European would.

It takes time to adapt and to develop personality. The better refs of recent times have all had outgoing personalities, sometimes it’s exceeded their abilities/accuracies with the laws, however, it’s made for a good spectacle so all has been well as far as their career has been concerned.

This guy will ref to letter of law rather than empathy for the game.  That is just his way by look of it

Yet he still made very poor decisions (LRZ yellow being the key one for me.)

what other poor decisions did he make? The lrz wss really marginal it took about 2 days of slowed down footage to prove a clear release. What are these other very poor calls he made?

In every game there’s give and take with ref decisions and most supporters will have one eye. No doubt if it was a South African doing that LRZ tackle people would be saying yellow card all day long.

!! Wow. That’s a statement.

Either they think we’re no good so they can rotate their squad or they think everyone who played last week deserves to be dropped.

I think it's more to do with building depth for the world cup & exposing players to test match rugby in readiness for the upcoming rugby championship.
