The issue we have with players like Costie, CLJ and Murray to some extent is size. They're all brave players and their size wouldn't matter individually, but in an often overpowered team it's difficult to get the best from them.

Put any of them behind the French pack and I'm sure they'd thrive.

It's a thorny problem which even our NWQ recruitment hasn't solved. If we move to reduced NWQ quotas, I worry where the 3 teams will get their locks, tight heads and Nr 8s from.
We're still still here, but I wish we were in an Anglo-Welsh

It's a fair point you're raising

In 10 years time if the gods spare us we will probably be speculating on whether some young OH will ever reach the same standard as CLJ-  players are remembered at the peak of their careers not at the start.

That brings itself a satisfaction of seeing potential grow and talent fulfil itself. Thinking back on some of the world class talent we have had over the years none have looked the finished article in their first season - even physical specimens like George North whilst scoring lots of tries had to develop his wider game. Get behind the boys - we aren't winning much these days but at least we can take pleasure in seeing talent come through and evolve into top class performers and be a part of supporting that journey not hindering it.

Great post Clap

I echo all the comments here in support of CLJ. There's absolutely no excuse for the comments and abuse that I've been reading online, it's disrespectful, narrow minded and quite frankly rude!

If we were a football team, it wouldn't surprise me, but we're not, we're rugby and a rugby family. This lad is 18 years old, been thrown in at the deep end, during a season where we've been struggling.

Players like CLJ need our backing and support, not the other way around! Knocking his confidence now with abusive comments could potentially have a huge negative impact on his future as a player.

It's up to us as supporters to stand up and eradicate this kind of behaviour from our game! Clap

I remember when Stephen Jones first started playing at 18. He looked rudderless on the pitch. They didn’t know if he was a centre, outside half or a full back. He turned out well.

He played well, just needs to change up from low trajectory kicks.

I think that what he was trying to do was to get the ball to bounce into touch in their 22, because there was a space there. A higher kick would have either gone in to touch on the full or its time of flight would have been longer, allowing the full back or wing to collect it in flight and so just giving the ball away. That's a sign of good rugby intelligence. He just needs more time to get used to the decrease in time available at this higher level which can result in charge-downs and interceptions, while maintaining his ability to put his side in the best field positions.

[QUOTE=Legendinmybathroom]A disappointing result (just a losing bonus point) but a few months ago that would have been a big defeat.

Pluses - we continue to score more tries than we did at the start of the season.
The forwards did well but were harshly penalised on occasions at scrum time.
The lineout functioned well on the whole.
Joe Roberts took both tries really well, jac Davies lol accomplished at full back and the halfbacks did well on the whole considering their age and experience.
Josh Macleod

Negatives - a few little errors by our halfbacks (late on the second half) cost us territory, possession and points on the scoreboard and ultimately turned the game in Edinburgh’s favour.
Our defence is still very poor, we’ve conceded another 26 points tonight against a very average Edinburgh side.
Our lack of quality second row backup means that we have to rely on Jac Price (just isn’t up to it) who is a penalty machine.
Our lack of ball carriers to supplement fletcher anderson.
Mac Page was extremely ineffective at 13, I never heard is name being mentioned once in commentary.  I believe that if we are to select him it has to be on the wing, where he has more of an opportunity of coming up against some one of a similar size, tonight his opposite player was physically much stronger and bigger and had him wrapped up.

I thought Macs done well considering his opposite player has 10 years of experience on him , I just watched the game again
Our back 3 really were not on point at all
Joe played well he had plenty of touches,  were he would have never had received them from Johnny  , Joe Hawkins , at 13
Carwyn will learn could be a cracking player if they don’t coach it
Out of him
