My best mate and I have spatted like this since we were 8 (and he fell in love with Suzy Quatro even though I pointed out her base guitar playing was mythical and that leather trousers were not a hallmark of musical excellence).

Great fun mun...he hates Queen by the way (one's appreciation, or lack of it, of Queen is a now a vital addendum to any new post)

Us music snobs. We are telling people to listen to what we like not what they like.

[apparently]

I think what can come across from you is that isn't the type of music you like then you don't even give it a chance. You dismiss it as rubbish point blank.
This isn't directed at you SA but dismissing something as rubbish is part of having an opinion.

I've spent the best part of my life listening to music and catching up on a century of music, admiring a lot of what has been whilst simultaneously enjoying a lot of today's music.

In the circumstance of me not liking something, course I think it's crap, if it wasn't crap to me then I would like it. Simple equation.

Now what KidA has said about Queen is nothing short of him voicing his opinion on why HE doesn't like Queen, giving valid reasoning. For other people to come on here then and have a go at him for this is ridiculous. Anyone's welcome to add to this music section with any topic they like, I might not agree with their opinion that X, Y or Z are the greatest band on the planet but I certainly wouldn't tell someone they were "full of shit" or to go "take a very long look at themselves"

The Queen thing has become a bit of lighthearted banter, as I see it anyway. It's just some people dispel music without even listening to it. Guilty M'lord here. I look at some of the artists you guys like and think nah not for me without even given it a listen. Ok I may not want to buy their back catalogue but I may like some songs.

I'm a believer that you need to be drip fed music sometimes so you got to explore the artist. Take Elbow for example, not a group I cared for but seeing as One fine day is played at the end of every Scarlets game I grew to like it and I had a listen to more of their stuff.

I think that's a rule of thumb I'll take too. But this thread is one that surprises me. I honestly though that there were just opinions here. No ridicule or snobbery involved.

Have you listened to Cian Ciarans new album mate?

No I have not heard Cians album. Got gulps 7" but not ciarans. Is it any good? Have not heard anything of his recent work outside the furries apart From acid casuals (I think that's ciaran but wouldn't swear to it).
Ye very good mate. Quite laid back, posted one song on the 'new music' thread, take a listen. Spoke to him a few weeks back (he was at Dinefwr Lit Fest watching Gruff), really nice guy.
i have only met guto and gruff, twice! once when they were DJ's in toucan bar in cardiff, and the other watching mogwai they were next to us in the coal exchange few years back, (mr.beast album tour i think). i was hoping they would invite him on stage to play Dial_Revenge with him, but it was not to be. i think all band members are top guys and genuinely nice. was gutted i couldnt make the dinefwr festival. was it good? did you see howard marks?

will check out the track later. its probably very good as most things the SFA members have done are. i think the peth is the poorest but even they have some very good tracks.

Ye the Dinefwr Festival was very good. Weather was crap and there was a poor turn out (down to the weather i think). Ye saw Howard Marks, saw his stage show in Swansea about 10 years ago (Mr Nice tour) but he has updated it so it was fresh and quite funny to be fair.

Gruff was his usual brilliant self. Played for about an hour and finished with an epic version of Skylon, there can't have been more than 150 people watching him. Went from that to seeing the Stone Roses 2 nights later where there were 70,000 people LOL.

The Cure I can agree with, but to just say Queen are over-rated and over popular is a joke.

they have influenced many big acts, current and passed....
Agreed! Clap Queen are oustanding, and had Freddy still been with us, I have no doubt that they'd still be going today! Clap

Back during my childhood, while I was largely into the Acid, Rave and Happy Hardcore era of music, Queen and the odd couple of others were the only other bands that I listened to, and that says something! Shocked

i enjoy queen, they have some poor tracks, but they do have some absolute belters - i want it all, show must go on, innuendo, don't stop me now, fat bottomed girls, the entire night at the opera album, tie your mother down, under pressure.

the only bad thing with queen now is i feel they should stop. constant tours with other people singing (i mean, jessie j??? come on. some songs should not never be touched, queen songs are in that category as nobody can sing the songs like freddie did, may and taylor for me should know that). I really do have the utmost respect for bassist John Deacon who said without freddie there is no queen.
brian may and roger taylor have really started to make people sick of queen which is a shame as they are a band that will forever be known as one of the greats in british rock history, if you like them or not. thats really the only issue i have with queen. its because of my fathers queen records i wanted to play guitar, and i am sure i am not alone in that.
