Big day today u20’s v Ireland an impressive home record for Ireland but I feel this U20’team has it in them to go one step further than yesterday and take the win.

On iPlayer now
IRE 19-12 WAL

Irish fly half has a massive boot.

Or the wind behind him

Wales chasing shadows at the moment. Looking ominous.

Ireland were a bit too streetwise today. Wales were a second too slow to too many rucks and choke-tackles.

Ireland more clinical. We also struggled to match the tempo they played at

I thought Dom K was good, carried hard in a tough game, we were the bigger team but seemed to get bullied in the breakdown.

A mixed performance if we're being truthful to ourselves. Lots to reflect on in the after-game reviews and when the stats are compiled

Yes fair assessment, the the squad those coaches have to hand we should be performing better than we have this tournament. Plenty to learn from.

The U20s losses have been disappointing and tinged with some self-inflicted wounds. However, I do think this is the most promissing crop of U20s we have had for years. You can make a case for half a dozen or more to feature in future Wales senior squads. Just sort out the domestic set up...
What's going on?

Yet again changes needed to be made but came too late. The starting team did nothing wrong to be fair but if you’re bringing the bench on to make a difference then starting that process with 20 min to go is being more hopeful more than helpful. For me this needs to start at the latest the 50 min mark to let the bench get into the pace of the game and then make the impact. The signs were there at half time that a refresh was needed.
It was a good game Ireland very well coached and street wise the weather didn’t turn till end of the game so no complaints really

Sounds like Kossuth got good reviews. Could see a backrow with him at 8, Osh Wills at 6. Macleod openside until Sparrow comes though?

I think we have first call on U20’s players.

I don't think so. It's the international window so clubs have to release players

You're right, SB [link to regulation here: [https://www.world.rugby/organisation/governance/regulations/reg-9 ], but young players have often played for Scarlets rather U20 in the past iirc.  I think the U20 coaches look at player development as a priority and for youngsters who are ready, URC is better for them than U20, so unless there's no-one else available and suitable for the U20s, I'd expect CLJ to be available to us.

I really don't this applies at age grade.

If we want to play a player in the Under 20's squad then we can.

If you look at section 9.7i there is a specific mention of international windows for National U20 teams although the dates seem incorrect.

That's what I always thought, but the regulation says this:

9.7(ii) Hemisphere Release Periods and Tournament Release Period

The Hemisphere Release Periods are: [etc. then

(b) Six Nations Release Period

(i) The Right to Release for Matches shall apply to Players who are eligible pursuant to Regulation 8 to represent the senior, the next senior National Representative Team or the Under 20 National Representative Team of a Six Nations Union in the Six Nations Championship during the Six Nations Release Period.

Seems extreme and I don't think the U20s coaches try to enforce it, but I read the rules as saying they could.  Moot point, because he did play for us and I'd bet on him starting on Friday.

Edit\; Didn't read the last two posts Embarrassed
