Cause some of the best runners in the game aren’t express but sort of have this ability to glide past tacklers - Dan Carter was one, Sanjay, Redpath has a bit of it.

wow stunned by this, dale ford ? whod have thought and also scott beating north. How quick was prime foxy over 40m?
Ill throw in a curveball, steve bowling used to do my gas meter and he claimed he was neck and neck with jiffy and ieuan in trainingSmile

Foxy and North carry a few more kgs..

Dale was a real shifter, as was Lee Rees. Both still playing in the Prem. Dale suffered terribly from poor injury luck ( leg fractures)...loved watching him run....he was like Morgan Stoddard meets Ieuan Evans.

I always liked watching Dale Ford, name I haven’t heard in years!

That's right, isn't it? No-one would put Jac Morgan into this 'race', but the try he scored last week needed balance, strength, and hand-off ability in addition to speed... I always feel let down when someone with superb physical attributes, such as speed, fail to score by running poor lines. They don't seem to possess much 'geometry' or a snooker brain!

One name missing who was faster than JJ over about 30/40 yards was Phil Bennet.

I played with Clive Rees and he was fast, but he also said that many sprinters were not so quick over the first x yards, but powered through on the final 50.

But what do I know I was a fat prop.
Be careful when you pick up the stick.........IT MAY BE THE WRONG END!!!!!!!!!!

Billy Whizz (Rees) was seriously quick... but he's right - when you look at 100m sprints, they are often won in the final 20-30m by someone who really gets his/her wheels going towards the end.

In rugby, it's usually more often the player who is very quick off the mark, and who can sprint for 25-40m, who can make a difference. Cawdor is a rare beast in that he can sustain his sprint for 80m or so, which is why he's scored so many intercept tries against top class - and fast - opponents.

Benny could certainly shift - I was looking for a try scored for Lions v SA, where his speed was crucial to the result, but came across this wonderful compilation - the Lions try is there ,right at the end. (By god, this brought a smile to my face!):
